Round houses are rare enough that any one example is inevitably known locally as “the” round house. Yet there are thousands of them around the world; in fact, certain African countries have many tens of thousands of them.

The following map shows the location of circular homes in countries as diverse as Denmark, Russia, Canada and Brazil. It includes residences designed by renowned architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, John Lautner and Mario Botta, along with converted water towers, historic villas, modern prefabs, and self-designed follies.

To see photos of the houses, click on any of the blue markers. You can see a view of a house from above if you click on the box in the bottom left corner of the map, then click on the house’s blue marker, then click several times on the plus sign in the bottom right corner of the map.

If you click on “View Larger Map,” the photos/etc are easier to see.
